Kiwanis-Deped-Army launches 3-months Feeding Program

A total of 514 elementary pupils benefited the newly launched 3-month feeding program sponsored by the Kiwanis International - Golden Tagum, in partnership with DepEd Davao Oriental Division and 701st Infantry (Kagitingan) Brigade on August 9-10, 2012.

Kiwanis Golden Tagum along with the Deped Division Medical Team and Philippine Army delivered the initial one-month feeding supplies to 10 Elementary Schools in Mati City namely: Licop, Tagbobolo, Culian, Badas, Belsonda, Tamia, Tagabakid, V. Almario Sr Memorial ES, Bobon, MFG Rabat Memorial. The schoolchildren were categorized and prioritized according underweight and severely underweight from Kinder to Grade Six.

Mr Jeffrey Mataro, President of the Kiwanis Golden Tagum said that addressing malnutrition as early as preschool will contribute to the child’s performance in school.  “This feeding program is only supplementary to what the parents feed to their child, and this will not sustain without your (parents) commitment in providing the right nutrition to your child.”

“I thank DepEd for identifying the right beneficiaries of our advocacy, and I thank the 701st Brigade, Philippine Army under Col Rey Leonardo Guerrero for bridging us to these (beneficiaries) communities,” Mataro added.

  1. Armies are not just for battle but for helping local programs in our government like feeding and medical mission. It is their way of serving our country, protecting children and teaching them.
